Life Insurance for Broward County Families
Life insurance is really a plan for the people who'd miss you, written down and paid for in advance. Here's how we help Broward families figure out how much they need and which kind fits.
Start with the question that matters: how much?
Most people either guess or go with "whatever my job gives me." Group life through work is a nice perk, but it's often limited to a multiple of your salary and usually ends when you leave. Our free Term Life Insurance Calculator compares two common approaches:
- The 10x income rule: a quick rule of thumb.
- The DIME method: Debt + Income replacement + Mortgage + Education, minus the coverage and savings you already have.
If you want the fuller picture, the Financial Inventory Calculator builds a personal balance sheet, and the Financial Budget Planner shows what you can comfortably spend on premiums.
Term or permanent? An honest comparison
Term life insurance
Term life covers you for a set period, often 10, 15, 20 or 30 years. It's typically the most affordable way to buy a large death benefit during the years your family depends on your income most: while the kids are home, while the mortgage is big and while retirement savings are still growing. If you outlive the term, the coverage ends. Some policies let you convert to permanent coverage without new medical questions, within limits set by the policy.
Permanent life insurance
Permanent coverage, such as whole life and universal life (including indexed universal life), is designed to last your whole life as long as it's funded, and it builds cash value. It costs more than term for the same death benefit. People use it for lifelong needs: final expenses, leaving a legacy, estate liquidity or supplementing other savings.
Plenty of families use both: term for the big temporary needs and a smaller permanent policy for the needs that never go away.
Life in Broward has its own math
Broward County is a big, busy place, with more than 30 municipalities from Deerfield Beach and Pompano Beach on the coast to Coral Springs, Parkland and Weston out west. A few local realities come up on almost every call:
- Housing costs. Mortgages, condo assessments and property-insurance premiums are a big share of the budget. Mortgage protection often anchors the plan.
- Two-income households. If either paycheck disappeared, would the budget still work? Both incomes usually need protecting, including a stay-at-home parent's, whose work would be expensive to replace.
- Self-employed and small-business owners. South Florida runs on small businesses. If you don't have group coverage, life insurance for business owners may be worth exploring.
- Sandwich generation. Many families here support aging parents and kids at the same time, so coverage often has to account for both.
What affects the price
Your premium depends on age, health, tobacco or nicotine use, family medical history, driving record, hobbies (yes, scuba and private piloting count), coverage amount and term length. Every carrier weighs these differently, which is why comparing more than one option helps. Final pricing is always set by the carrier through underwriting. A calculator or online "quote" is an estimate.
The process, step by step
- Free call. We talk about who depends on you and what you already have.
- Options. You see a short list of policy types, amounts and premiums, with the trade-offs explained.
- Apply. Depending on the policy, that's health questions only or a quick paramedical exam that can often happen at home.
- Approval. The carrier reviews and makes an offer. Sometimes it's different from the estimate, and we'll explain why.
- Review the policy together. Florida policies include a free-look period, and we'll confirm beneficiaries are set up correctly. That small detail matters more than people think.
Already have a policy?
Bring it. We'll check that the amount still fits, the beneficiaries are current (an ex-spouse listed on an old policy is a common surprise) and any term conversion deadlines haven't snuck up on you. Replacing a policy isn't always a good idea, and when it isn't, we'll say so.
